Monitor Blues

Howdy!

I'm trying to get a new 19" monitor but all I've managed to get so far is two defect Hitachi CM772. If I get my money back I am going for one of the following:

- iiyama VisionMaster Pro 451
- LG Flatron 915FT Plus
- Samsung 959NF (replaces the 900NF)

The Samsung seems to have quite a nice dotpitch, 0.24. I have not had the chance of testing Samsung monitors but I have heard a lot of praise about them. A friend has the iiyama and it looks really nice, good picture and 4 USB ports, the dotpitch is only 0.25/0.27 though.

Not sure about the Flatron (my idea is, if it is so good, why is no-one else producing slot mask displays?). My eyes seems to like the stripes of *trons better than the triads of shadowmasks.

By the way, a lot of producers seems to be making flat shadow mask, Samsung for example seems to have made a huge addition to their monitor lineup recently and most of them are new models featuring their DynaFlat tube. Are improved shadow masks the way of the future? (or is it just that Sony and Mitsubishi has the sole rights to making *tron tubes?)

So, flood me with your opinions about these and any pros and cons you may have for them! 🙂

Whichever I am buying I will not buy unless I can check it out in the store before I take it home. It's getting annyoing carrying 19" monitors around 🙂 (the ones I have gotten now has been delivered to my house)

Also, maybe someone can tell me if this is a fault with the Hitachi's I have received or my eyes (got a vision defect): To the sides of the screens, left and right there appears as if every other vertical line is white or whiter. This is most clearly visible with in areas with the default windows grey color. It is not visible in the center of the screen and becomes more and more distinc the farther from the center you look. It is not circular so I do not see it at the centre top nor bottom, instead it is more a horizontal thing, the farther to the sides you look the more it stands out. Also when I turn it on the pixel seems a bit to "swim around". There is definately some small movements, like you had a bit of water just inside the glass and shook it.
