Went to the OM in Springfield, MO., asked about this, got that "you ARE nuts" look. Knew nothing of any sale and only had two monitors - period. Typical of any of these deals in the Springfield stores.

SAME here...the local OM only sells Gateway computer systems, and they have a limited selections of peripherals. Guess this deals is going to vary by where you live...

The store in Lakewood, CA had one of TFTs. It rang up @ $799!!! WTF? To boot, it was either defective/returned or a display model. Not only that, the person there claimed that they didn't follow the same clearance pricing corp. hq in Cleveland!! What a load! And she thought I was nuts when I told her the priced had been dropped once already to $299. Oh well, as it sometimes goes!

In Thousand Oaks, CA they had 5 of the 19" PX-982's. I picked one up, it rung up at $299. If they don't drop the price the next two days I'll just take it back. I'll leave it packed in the box till then. Same with the 200 CD-Rs. I'm sure we'll get some intersting posts the next day or two.

RE: You deserve what you get if you think the store managers know the subtle differences in their computer products. Stores don't put different SKU's on the same exact item. The PX-9825 has a .26 dot pitch and the PX-986 has a .25 dot pitch according to the boxes.

That is really odd too because I was looking at that on the boxes side by side and I wondered why the same model had two different dot pich .25 vs .26 (hmmmmm) But the boxes were all LARGELY marked 986's so go figure?

For Atlantans out there, don't bother checking the Duluth store. They had four monitors in the store -- three beat-up displays (1 newer 19" Proview [not clearance], 2 15" [not clearance]), and the Gateway TFT hooked up to the ordering kiosk.

However, SUPER HOT DEAL at that store!! FOUR, count 'em, FOUR AUREAL SQ2500 PCI soundcards for only...now get ready!...$80 each! Wow, please let me spend money on an old card from a bankrupt/closed company with no driver or warranty support. They also had the old style MS Explorer mouse (three of them) for $69 each. Mind you, these are the non-optical Explorers. I bought mine from Wal-Mart for $20 on clearance about three months ago. What kind of idiot prices those things??

I went to the Palm Desert, California store this morning for the 19" monitors.

The salesman was helpful, he said there were two monitors (of the correct SKU) in their computer's inventory but not in stock (rather there were the OTHER $299 monitors). Of course, he knew nothing of the sale price.

Frankly, when comparing my 17" monitor to a 19", I don't see that much of a difference. I guess I will skip 19 inches and upgrade to a 21" someday . . . oh well . . . nice post and nice try.

Pricing from store to store. About 6 months ago most of the employees where I work picked up those soundcards for $10 each. They're listed as $0.00 in our system now. And we sell the old style MS Explorer for ~$20 I think.

Fargo had one of the M50s but thats it for the clearance monitors I think.

I bought one of the SQ2500s for 29.99 on clearance last summer. I saw one on Santa Fe
in December, scanned if it would be really cheap. It was also 79.99

Unbelievable....I can't believe the store took the word of the forum to mark down the item........tomcat....you either were extremely lucky or found a manager that was an complete idiot. I picked up a 15"TFT and 19" on Friday.....prices are still the same here in DFW, Texas as of 11am today....will check back again tomorrow.....the employee I checked with said if I was waiting for the monitor prices to fall.....wait until Monday....siad he had one of the 19" on hold for himself in the back.....I still have another on hold there too. Patience is a virtue.................

Maybe I am missing something, but how did you get the manager to mark the price down to $130, if it was not in the computers? What did your website have to do with it?

This morning (Sun) I checked the same store as yesterday. Still had the $299.99 tags out. I got the girl to scan the tag into the computer. It still showed $299.99. I guess I will check back tomorrow at lunch time. It would be nice if someone who scored this deal would scan their reciept in and post it!

Don't waste your time at the Levittown, NY store. The douche bag who works there is a total dick. Bitching about how this is all bullshit, how this doesn't exist. This after I get word confirmed that they have 4 in stock on their computer. Possibly the worst attitude I have ever seen on an employee. I was 2 seconds from stomping his skull, and I'd like to go back there and do it right now. Lucky for him my temper was in check today.

In short, don't waste your time. These people keep this stuff for themselves. I guess thats the benefits of working a crappy, minimum wage job.

What happened was that we called the night before the prices were supposed to drop. We talked to a guy, he said that the price would drop and that he would put the monitor on hold for us if we gave him the url of the website we used..

So not willing to give away dear anadtech we quickly copied and pasted and put the text on a new domain (which is now dead :)). They took it for the real thing and gave us the $130 price that we had on our site. Technically we could have put any price there, OfficeMax really had no idea about any price change, its just that the representative promissed us the $130 the night before because he assumed we were right.

Score!

Thank's tomcat for not revealing the forum. I just edited this note after seeing your precautions however, a note to all members. Remember that this forum and the good people who (might take risks) share this info are the only leverage we have next to those with first access to the merchandise. Selling out for a personal deal compromises the good thing we have (?gheads up?h). Like a bus, theres allways another on the way.

I often remind myself.

I'm not blaming Neo, not at all. He passed on info, which was nice of him. I'm just saying it's going to be hard to find these when employees take them all. Plus that you can skip the store I spoke of as well.

Regarding Levittown, NY store, I was told last night they had 2 but they were jerks when I called just to check inventory against my source and confirm the store address. Even in answering the phone but as mentioned in many posts what can you expect from some folks working for the min $.
I'm going to pass on this one.

Here's the skinny as of Sunday. First of all, they don't seem to know anything (surprise!). Second, the PX-986 is still at full price. And they don't seem to think it will drop, but said call back tomorrow.

I suspect this one is going back to the store for a refund. Worth a try.

Here in Richmond, VA they have the monitors, funny thing is this.
The one's they have in stock are the 986's, not the 982's. This is the 19 inch Proview monitors. They dont know anything about the new prices, yet. Managers.....say both models are the same??? I got one will wait to see how it goes, if it doesnt work out.....back it goes.
