I would think that people would know NOT TO CALL OM stores when looking for these deals. Those of us who remember the Philips DVD-ROM and Hollywood+ decoder learned our lessons (had two of those taken by employees).

So, DON'T CALL THE STORES, YOU DIMWITS!! Get off your lazy butt and drive there! No offense, Neo, but OfficeMax doesn't employ many honest employees (at least in their stores). I've had much better luck with OfficeDepot in that regard (but I don't trust them on good deals either).

:)

I went to my OM and they have some of the 19 inch Proview but they are still ringing up as $299. The model number is PX-9825 not the PX-986. The sales rep said that the PX-9825 is not going to be discontinued and that they are going to continue carry it. I will go back tomorrow and check again. They had the M50 also but no price reduction yet. How do these Proviews look (text and image0? Anybody know.

I'd recommend going to the store yourself also. I work for Officemax and if someone called for it and an employee saw the price, they'd say we didn't have any. Most of the time, employees at my store give the clearanced items to the employees because we don't get a discount at all. If the employees don't want it, then we put it out of the floor.

Austin OM - guy says he's got many calls this morning and it's a internet prank. They have those Proviews on shelf - marked at $299. He says definitelly not $130. Claims he called OM headquarters after the calls - and that they don't know about it at all.
So, what's up ?

No internet prank. This may start tomorrow (Sunday) or Monday. It depends on when they download their prices. Also, if the stores don't have the monitors left in stock they obviously won't have them on sale. The idea of lowering the prices is to clear them out since they are older, presumably, discontinued models. From what I've read about a previous Palm thread, it seems that NeoV is reliable.

NeoV is definitely reliable...I just wish some of you could see the post he started back in August about the $299 15" TFT.

I checked out my local OM this morning, and they had the 19" Mirage, the 17" Compaq, and a few 15"s, but all were regular price.

I wonder when the new prices will be reflected...?

NeoV was right on the Palm VII deal. It does take a day or two for the prices to update as it did with the Palm. Give it a little time. He's a great source!!

BTW, if its just a computer price update, no sense asking the manager about discount monitors. He won't know until its loaded anyway....unless he happens to track current prices of every item in the store by memory.

Thanks again NeoV!!

Guys, price update always happened on Sunday, ie Office Depot, BestBuy, CompUSA, Staples...except Micro Center (they do things differently, or maybe slow computer)
I think OfficeMax is no different, so be patient...

Good thing I stop myself from getting out of bed and rush to OM this morning, once awhile I'd use my head :)

I did not see any monitors with SKU listed in this thread in local OM. They only have 3 types of monitors, one of those is 19". No price drop at all.

I just got back from my local OM and they had the 19in and the HP 17in but they were coming up the regular price. I told the girl that I thought they were supposed to be on clearance. I asked her if she knew if the prices were updated that morning and she told me that the "upc person" wasn't going to be in till Monday to update their system. I guess I'll stop in then and give it one more try.

the dimwit there showed the 15" TFT in inventory
but after 30 mins said it was damaged/defective
he checked the other stores in Miami that had it
on inventory by phone - no dice :(

Vaj: you should have got his name and turned him in to neo--you can BET the guy has the thing in a corner upstairs with his name on it!

I ran into this all the time at the Deerfield, Fl location...anytime something like this stuff went on sale, it all flew off the shelves and went upstairs. I had to ask the manager to go upstairs and get the one they were "holding" for me...and he always came down with whatever it is I was looking for...

Thanks for this thread. I really need a monitor to go with the system I am building and cash is thin after my other buys. I was going to have to use a CTX 14", ouch!
Today I went into the Utica, Michigan store. They had the 19" PX-9825 still there at regular tag price, but I didn't see any Flat screens. They did have the HP 17" M70. I grabbed one and it rang up at normal price. They told me I can "price adjust it" within 14 days. I needed to buy it today because the rebate for it ends today. That's right, the 17" has a rebate too, besides the 15", but the 15" still goes on. If you bought the 17" HP, go HERE 4 Rebate. If you were going to wait till the price actually shows $90, you will miss the $50 off. That's going to be $45.40 for me plus the gas to go get it at the store for a 17" HP. I got a 15" HP with our Pavilion system, it has been reliable since Oct.98.

I am the guy from lawrence who has the merriam store holding back 2.. I actually just called them and told them only to hold 1 for me, so there is ONE 19" monitor at the store that can be bought.

To make a long story short, our explorer broke on K10 on the way to KC yesterday (in rush hour traffic nonetheless), and I was fixing it all day today.

I told them I will be up tonight or tomorrow morning to pick up 1 monitor (my dad decided he didnt want one after all), so there is still a 19" monitor up there and also one being held back for me.
