I awoke yesterday to find a black smudge looking imperfection on my monitors display. It is about an inch wide, and spans about three inches across, as it fades and thins. It is a blackish, greyscale looking area. It is most prevalent if i turn the background to white, to see the imperfeciton well.

I've had this monitor for 2 years without a single problem. Its an iiyama 450 pro. I'm not familiar with monitor degradation, anyone know what is happening here?

I had a 21 inch monitor that appeared like that after UPS got through dropping it a few times..I believe the mask was damaged. Have you tried simple stuff like powering off and on a few times and degausing?

Yep, i've shut down quite a few times. Didn't see a degause function tho, but i'm guessing the monitor degauses everytime you boot the pc?

Now that i look at this imperfection more, it appears to be a purpleish, somewhat transparent blotch. It pretty huge, and looks terrible, hehe. Let me go to iiyama's website and see about the warrannty :)

Oh, and make sure you dont have any magnetic devices like a magnetically unshielded speaker near by.

Good they have a 3yr. warranty. But, this is an exlcusion:

"This warranty does not apply to this product if it has been misused, abused or altered.
A cracked cabinet casing, a broken CRT, or a shadow mask problem is presumed to be a result of either shipping damage or abuse."

Is this problem i am having a "shadow mask problem"? I didn't move this monitor for 2yrs., it been on this desk since purchase.

If you havent moved it for 2 years, they would have a hard time stating it was shipping damage for sure.

Is the blotch in a corner? You should have a degause button somewhere. Try turning the monitor off for about 15 minutes & power back up. On my Sony the degause function is in the menu under options. Good luck!!

Thank the lord for this one, hehe, j/k guys, thx a bunch, worries over. Although degausing it, and repeated on/offs didn't cure it, turning it off for a few hours did :)

hope this does not come back cuz i'll spaz again lol
