Im at a hotel for extended stay, so brought my pc, and long story short, my PC was zapped and now the screen is extremely dark, for more see my post on the video card forum, i cant copy paste on this POS hotel lobby pc. If it is the backlight, i see very little but it appears to be the bright spots on icons and the cursor, most else is black. Why does the monitors menu fully lit up, is it on diff circutry? I just want to find out because im having the hotel HOPEFULLY refund me for the monitor so I dont want it to be something else.

Is the menu supposed to be very dark too>????
Also could it be the monitor cable?
And is it poss that its the vid card, the problem is is that windows and post show no errors, even can do anything i want in windows no errors, (course i can barely see what Im doing but alot of programs open up fine.)

PS never freaking stay at a marriott courtyard if u have a choise this POS lobby pc is slower than dialup, and it logs me off every 20 min. i so want to chuck this out the window. i so want to.

Hotels normally have a PC available for customer use. Can you ask them to let you try one of their monitors with your system?

well its this pos one peice unit that since u mention it does have a free vga out, but i tried using the tv in the room with svideo but everything is so locked down here i cant change video input. so i dont know how to change monitors on this thing, it uses some safe OS shell over XP.

backlight=no image.
well, you can see a faint image if you shine a bright light on the front of the screen, the pixels are reacting, but no backlight to shine through.
so you can tell if the monitors completely borked or ifitts just the backlight shut off
its not your monitor, its your pc.
i dunno if its busted drivers or hardware failure. there is no partial backlight death where sections of screen are black. sometimes the light tinges pink before death for a while, or if one light out of two on bigger screens goes out you might have a dim side.

can't wait for led backlights to become common.
but i don't think its your monitor.
