This is a Dell E228WFP..it has functioned just fine for about 11 mos..then 2 days ago it booted up as normal..it attempted to auto adjust to the normal black background..it failed this and then appeared a dark green..it has been like this ever since. I tried to do the monitor color adjustments..they are fine, it is just the background color that is faulty..a re-install of my vid card drivers were to no-avail. WTF over ! Is my monitor porked ? Can it be fixed ? It is usable but a slight green tint is evident at all times now. Any input from you Gurus out there ?

I shut down my sys..disconnected my monitor from the vid card..fired up the monitor with no input..all colors are normal using the monitor input tests..and !! the background is black like it should be. Uh oh, is this a sign of out of band input level from my vid card ? At least for now everything else seems to be functioning as they should.

Wow for some reason the reply window wasn't comming up earlier. anyway...

If the monitors own test patern looks good then i don't think the monitor is the problem. If you have or can borrow another monitor try it on the system. Also try using a differnt cable on your monitor. A bad wire or pin in the cable can cause a color problem like that. Especially on a VGA cable.

Thanks for the suggestion mpilchfamily,

I swapped out with my older CRT unit and the same cables, and the problem was not evident on the screen...so...either my dell 22" Lcd is in fact slightly porked, or the CRT input [ loading ]requirements are different than the Lcd's and managed to display a black background rather than green like the Lcd does. I have to ask you people out there who work with monitors often..if this behavior of my Lcd is a common fault with Lcd panels..or just the luck of the draw.

I checked the Dell site and my unit still had about a month to go before the warranty runs out. So..another monitor is on it's way with cabling to match. I sincerely hope this one will last like my 4 yr old CRT monitor. By the way..my experience with the Dell on-line tech support was top notch..this being my first time..well..I'm a happy camper.

I'm not sure but i think a CRT's life span is better then an LCD. The backlighting on LCDs tend to go bad first.

Heh..I talked to the Dell Tech about 4 PM yesterday..my replacement, refurbished monitor arrived at 1 PM this afternoon. Did I get good service or what ? No complaints from this quarter..Dell delivered the goods a couple of days ahead of their promised delivery date. They used me good ..so..I blew their horn some.

The problem is fixed and my display is bright and colorful again.

May the Gods of Gear smile down upon my sys once again. [ couldn't resist that..heh ]
