Monitor apears to be going into Standby Problem

So, I had my puter shipped out to me when I last moved and true to my expectations there are now problems. While nothing was loose or jiggling around when I got it, I have since had some problems and am trying to figure out what to do.

Basically when I got it and set it up, turned it on, I heard fans start whirring, HD start clicking, lights on keyboard flashed, but the monitor's little green light keep blipping on and off as if it was still in standby. My first thought was that something had happened to the monitor or the video card. Prior to moving across the country I had assembled some machines from all the parts I had and given them to a local elementary school which left me with little fodder to practice troubleshooting with. The whole project got put on hold for a few months, and I just used my laptop until my brother moved out here as well.

I then tried switching the monitors, same standby thype thing, switching the video card, same thing again. So, the problem wasn't as simple as I was hoping, but at least my monitor and vid card seemed to be functioning correctly on my brother's machine, so that was a relief. I tried reseating everything, no change. I pulled everything out but HD and vid card and one ram module, no change. I tried switching to a different ram module, no change. Plugged both ram back in and sighed, tried turning it on and Huzaah! Able to go in on safe mode. Took a look around with safemode, did a bunch of backing up onto an external hard drive.

I uninstalled Vid card drivers and restarted and was able to boot up fine with no vid drivers loaded. I used a driver cleaner and installed new Nforce drivers and part way through the installation the monitor goes into the same state. I try restarting puter and it loads up to windows splash screeen then into standby. Restart in safe mode, clear drivers again, load up a much older Nforce driver and same thing happens. I decide to just clear everything out and reformat and do a clean XP install. Everything installs fine, but when I install Video card drivers it goes into standby again. I tried using omerga drivers as well and also run into standby mode with that. I also wondered if there could be some issue with the puter trying to go into a HZ that the monitor can't handle which sends it into a mode withthe little light beeping? I tried installing monitor drivers before vid drivers and same problem occurs.

So, I am basically scratching my head wondering what could be the problem. If I had another mobo around I could try that, but other then that I'm not sure what my next step should be. Since this all happened after shipping the computer I feel like there must be some mechanical problem resulting from that, but how and why would it be causing this problem?

I'm also a little puzzled with how reseating and switching the ram was what finally allowed me to boot up and see up to the windows splash screen. I have tried with all configurations of the ram now and the same problem occurs. I really didn't want to buy another MoBo, but if that is what might be the problem then I will. This was to be my last AGP mobo and supposed to last me a couple years since I got a Geforce 6800 just about a year ago. I'm not playing any games so intense that I need an upgrade so I figured this setup should last a few years. I remember a coupl months ago doing some research on standby and power management and going through the Bios to make sure nothing was selected there that might cause that, but I don't remember exaclty what I did or looked at, and settings are back to standard now. Oh well, I still have the laptop at the moment, but if anyone could offer any suggesitons as to why the puter might be behaving like it is or where a problem might exist, please let me know. Is it even going into standby, or are there other things that could be causing the monitor to behave like it is? Thanks for any help.
