Monitor Advice - 19"

Hey all, I need a recommendation for a good replacement monitor - I've been using LCDs for the past two years, and the 60hz refresh has just killed my eyes. So I sold my Planar 17.4" viewable and am seeking a really nice 19" CDT/CRT with dual inputs (ie: DVI+DSub15) and is FLATSCREEN. Apature Grill vs. Shadow Mask... I'd prefer AG.

Right now my top choice is a Samsung 900NF - but it only has one input, and it's DSub. Anyone know much about Sonys? If I have to settle for one input I'd like DVI at least.

Thanks all!

I'm not up to speed on specific models but Mitsubishi aperture grill models compare favorably with Sony. My three year old 900u has a flat screen, dual inputs and a USB hub. The picture quality is still great. The Samsung NF uses a Mitsu tube.

Hitachi says
"However, the picture sometimes looks better at 60Hz, depending upon the application. This is true with all flat panels, and other vendors also suggest using lower settings, which can sometimes attain better pictures and text than higher refresh rates. The reason for lower refresh rates in LCDs is because the liquid crystal molecules damper flicker and higher refresh rates are not as important."

Can anyone tell me why nobody lists the CTX-PR096 for a top CRT monitor, most of the PC magazines I read lists it as best buy and so on?

I think you are pretty limited when it comes to DVI, and then if you want to add in dual inputs too, you're getting even more limited, especially in a 19" monitor. I just got a 21" Dell and it has dual Dsub, which I think is good but I just don't see many duals.

hehe rtfm 😀

Both Toms and Anandtech have had some good monitor reviews in the past six months. I've got a 19" Sony Trinitron and an 22" NEC/Mitsubishi. Trinitrons look good, no doubt about it but I think the NEC/Mitsu actually looks better.

I researched quite a bit before I bought. There are a lot of, for lack of a better word, hybrid's out there that look great. By this I mean there's some Shadow Mask monitors that share some of the properties of Aperature Grill, oval shaped holes and such.

You can grab a Mitsu FE1250+ for about 600 I think these days.
