moniter help

I browsing the internet when my moniter flickered and became fuzzy. I couldn't read any text unless its a huge font or i use the magnifier tool. I have an old crt, i think its from 96. i also smelt something hot, like over heating electronics from the monitor is the tube gone or could it just be a simple software fix
