MONEY NO OBJECT: WHAT'S THE BEST H/D???

UPDATE:

Quantum Rushmore Ultra 5320 3.2Gig Solid State drives...$28,000

So to get your 40GB, you would need approx. 12 of these drives.
For a grand total of..... $336,000.00 (+ shipping 🙂)

Ok to answer your question. Personally I would take a look at the new Seagate ATA4s. I read in the forum a while ago that they are not "out" yet. But the fact that they use this new "fluid ball bearing" or some other similar named technology makes them exceptionally quiet like the Fujitsu drives. I do own a fujitsu drive and it is VERY quiet compared to my Seagate ATA3.

Well just my opinion no word about performance on these drives probably can't go too wrong with Seagate.

but really,
I just bought an IBM 60GXP 40GB HD. I love it. I'll recommend it to anyone.
You can't hear the drive when it's working. The only way you know it's doing anything is if you look to see if the HD light is on.

although i havent heard anything yet about the new seagate drives, i can comment on what experience i do have...i like the maxtor drives...in your case, i would go with a 40gb dm+60....very nice drive...its one of the fastest and its very quiet, too!!!

(edit...wrong size 😱)

tkim: All the ide drives from the leading manufacturers are competative in speed. It comes down to price and personal preference. I like the IBM 60gxp series, for more info go here, Storage Review

If you need a large (ATA) disk get a WD 800BB. For storage where cost (and NOISE) isn't a concern get some 180 GB 'cudas!

Cheers!
