an opportunity has opened up and need to give 2 weeks notice.

and what about a resignation letter? yay or nay? i sometimes have a hard time conveying my thoughts so when i give my 2 weeks, just it doesnt come out right, they can read the letter regarding my reason for resigning.

give your two weeks notice on friday. some companies will say just dont come back... so this way ya get paid for the full week of work. :)

well, i finally have a set date on the new job. would it be in bad taste to take a week off for vacation and then the next working friday give my 2 weeks?

You earned that vacation time. It is your right to use it. Who cares what they think?

no, but i want to be courteous because my co-workers/supervisors are actually very nice. plus isnt it customary to give 2 weeks notice anyways?

and i have accrued enough vacation time for a week off.

my bank pays the unused vacation days, maybe your company will

i actually gave a 5 week notice, since everyone here is so nice, so that way they could find someone by the time i left (which is next week), i was kinda suprised they didn't just let me go after 2, but i guess i was right that they needed someone here at the position...

and i get all my sick days and vacation days paid out (of course i used the sick ones...wisdom teeth, ouch)

Usually companies will pay for your unused vacation time but not your unused sick time. I've never understood why they are treated differently, but I just lost 155 hours of sick time that I wasn't able to use.

yeah my bank also does that. and everythings lumped into PTO (paid time off). no sick days or anything. i might just skip the vacation time (i was just going to lounge around at home and do nothing) and give notice next friday which should be enough time to form a letter of resignation.

thanks all for the advice. :)

I know in NJ you 2 weeks notice by employee OR employer is required. so when i was working at the one place, a guy gave his 2 weeks notice (we all told him NOT to but he insisted) and he got fired ON THE SPOT.

If you are legally NOT required to give 2 weeks notice and the laws there are similar, be prepared to be asked NOT to return.

heh, i just told my immediate boss and fired an quick email to HR. they just used that for the 'letter'.

i actually can't wait to get out of here though, i'm becoming a slacker at work with the thought of leaving so soon, I hope i don't piss anyone off .... :)

studies have shown that getting released on fridays reduces the chance for an "incident" to occur than mondays.

hehe. same here. er.. well the pissing off part. when i was interviewed, one of the questions was how long can you see yourself working here.. and my answer was "for awhile".. 6 months later.. im giving my 2 weeks notice..

our company has the "you're voluntarily working here" and you or we can terminate employment at any time. i highly doubt once i give my 2 weeks, that i will be canned on the spot. i dont have a desk job (work in a production enviornment), so it's gonna be hard on them if they fire me on the spot without starting the process of hiring someone new.
