I cant believe they go and make a Wii in black.... For Nintendo to release a console in black is just as ridiculous as SEGA releasing a Genesis in white back in the day.... or a Dreamcast in light gray(very bad idea it was) absolutely moronic...
Ok fine... N64 was in black.. or dark gray? And maybe gamecube... But these were "gimmick" consoles, they never really 'took off" as much as SNES did for example. Light gray or white was always Nintendo's main thing as far as I can see starting from NES... And it looked like they reinforced this with the Wii, but apparently I was wrong...
What are you even talking about? They are just giving consumers what they wanted, which is in no way a bad thing. It's not like the black version is more expensive or any different than the white version other than the obvious color difference. A lot of consoles have done this, including the 360 and the PS3 (not so much a change in color, but matte finish compared to gloss).
The the N64 didn't take off? It didn't exactly dominate it's generation, but it definitely didn't flop (like the sega saturn did in that generation of consoles). The Gamecube did come in last in it's generation, but it wasn't like they got slaughtered completely. The xbox was only ahead of the Gamecube by 3 million sales (the PS2 was ahead of both of them by about 110 million sales). If you go back and compare sales in the SNES generation, you'll see that they were only ahead of sega by about 9 million sales. The only Nintendo console that dominated the rest was the NES (62 million NES sales compared to 13 million sega sales), but that was mainly due to a lack of competition. No one else could deliver the performance that the NES had at the price point that Nintendo was selling it at.
