Why is Anand teasing us like this?
Obviously the price of this drive is stupid compared to separate SSD+HDD but for laptops with a single bay it could be a winner, assuming the caching is up to par.
I do have to wonder why Seagate used 8GB of SLC instead of 16-20GB of MLC. With a good controller wear shouldn't be an issue.
Seagate will eventually use the larger NAND to cache writes as well as reads. Early next year 750GB Momentus XT owners will get a firmware update adding write caching support. I've played with an early version of this firmware and it does improve performance tremendously.
