My mom wants a digital camera for taking pictures of pictures (yeah, pictures of pictures), newspaper articles, bible pages, headstones, etc., for genealogy. She doesn't have much money, so let's keep it cheap. Under $100 if possible, but $150 for a really good deal would be OK too. Thanks.

I got the FujiFilm finepix1300 1.3mp from Staples a while back for free after rebates. It's a great camera for taking pictures of random things. The pictures look good at 640x480...anything else and it starts to look really blocky.

With that budget you probably will only be able to get 1.x megapixel cameras (maybe SOME 2.1mp)...

From my experience, taking pictures of articles, books, magazines dont turn out too good on these cameras... You might wanna consider a scanner instead...

Yeah...I was going to say...a flatbed scanner is much cheaper and is better suited for that job.

I agree about the scanner being better for some jobs, but she needs to be able to take pictures of headstones too which will require a camera.

try to find the Fuji A101 for about 100. think you can find em on ebay for that price. I picked one up at the Walgreens $99 clearance sale and its MUCh better than that Kodak dc3200, if you can find it for that price.

its like 100.00 shipped i believe. this cam is an excellent camera for just shooting pics for day to day use.

I agree I got in on the Kodak DC3200 deal from the Hot Deals forum, and the Staples compact flash deal as well.

Got the camera, a lens cap, SanDisk USB card reader, and a 64Meg card for about $100 with no mail in rebates. :)

this camera is great for people starting out...
