Could she be charged as a sex offender since she posed as a minor in order to have a relationship with a minor?

But they just talked on the internet, right? It's not like they met up and the mother sexually harassed the girl.

At the bottom of the article...

"In December, Missouri prosecutors declined to file charges against Drew, saying there was no law under which she could be charged."

It's sad. The whole situation is sad.

But perhaps what disturbs me more is that so many teen girls think they find "true love" at 14 and then resort to cutting, eating disorders, or even suicide when that "love" disappears.

Come on. Teens don't know what THAT kind of love is! Why can't they care as much about keeping a 3.0 GPA or better in high school?

Priorities in this day in age have gotten so far out of whack!

meh... the mother should've leave the bullying to her daughter instead doing it herself.

but think of it this way... IF the guy was real, and he dumps the girl, the girl kills herself, is it his fault? actually, i've known a girl in real life who dumped her bf, and he shot himself and killed himself with a shotgun...

... Really? So do I sorta, what was his name? PM if you like.

Ahh, okay... Different guy.

Idiot girl would have killed herself and her boyfriend if this had happened IRL rather than a virtual one. I say that the woman should be rewarded for saving a life.

Some people can be such dumbasses some times.

Schools have always been 80% filled with morons who don't care about their education. This is nothing new. There are plenty of smart, rational teens out there.

This whole thing is just sad. This is why my daughter will never be online without some sort of supervision, be it me/wife there or some sort of monitoring software.

I guess maybe harassment would be the worst she did (legally that is, no doubt she's a scum sucking bitch)...but then is online harassment a chargeable offense in Missouri? Was it back it 2006 when this happened?

ok the mother is a sick bitch. But i agree jailtime is wrong.

BUT i do think she needs to sued in civil court and lose EVERYTHING she has and ever makes.

though since the "mother" told the kids to keep quite and delete the account then maybe they can nail her on that.

either way a sick story. i expect such crap from 13 yr old kids but not a adult.

If I get into an argument on ATOT with another member and they tell me to go DIAF and I commit suicide, should my family be able to sue for civil damages?

Your family could sue for anything. Another matter entirely whether they will get anything or not.

p.s. DIAF 😀

You're in so much trouble!

To clarify my point, since you pointed out the obvious hole in my argument, is whether a civil suit should ever be granted for a case like this.

I think a lot of what happens will depend on what (if anything) the mother knew about the girl's state of mind. If the mother knew the girl was already depressed and/or had suicidal tendencies, and she still proceeded to create this elaborate hoax with the intention of creating severe emotional distress, than she very well could be convicted of the charges against her.

Playing devil's advocate here-- I can think of several cenarios (albeit somewhat contrived) where simply lying (which alledgedly is not a crime) to someone might make you criminally culpable for their suicide. For instance, if you are a doctor (or as part of some elaborate hoax, pretend to be a doctor), and tell a patient they have rapidly progressing and painfully degenerative terminal illness, and they later commit suicide based on that you could be held responsible.

"She was looking for me to help calm herself down like I always did and be there for her. And I was upset because I didn't like the language she was using, and I was angry she didn't sign off when I told her to," Tina Meier told CNN."

It was just as much the mothers fault. Girls with esteem issues shouldn't have myspace. Making a faker profile isn't against the law, why should it matter if a woman with a faker profile rejects her or a real man who wants nothing to do with some *****, promptly dumps her?

Do I have to worry about being arrested and thrown in jail every time I dump someone on myspace?! Is teasing against the law now too?

A girl in my neighborhood killed herself by hanging because she got in an argument with her mom over MySpace. I think the Mom cut her off of it or something. Don't feel any sympathy for something that dumb.

yep. this is simply darwin thinning out the gene pool

If the express intent was to drive the girl to commit suicide, then I'd say she deserves jail time. Otherwise, jail time doesn't fit the crime, but she certainly deserves public scorn for being such a poor excuse for a human being. Bring back the tar and feathers or the stockade or something...

Not sure which one is more dumb, killing yourself over a myspace relationship - or believing the women "needs to go to prison for a long long time." OK maybe the first one by a smidge.

Frankly, if anything should be done here its that Myspace should be 16+ instead of 13+ or whatever it is now. Or perhaps ban Myspace entirely, that would work

Wow, he shot himself AND killed himself with a shotgun?

I wonder how many people on this forum will hang themselves.

Sorry to sound like a mean person but...

If she was willing to kill herself SOLEY over what somoeone over my space said, she had a serious mental illness.

Where were her parents?

Hm, I wonder if it's an election year

Yeah, cuz except for myspace teens never get embarrassed or made fun of or ridiculed by peers
