I ordered some Akebono brake pads and CRC disk brake quiet to do a brake job on the ol' Versa. Looking through the Akebono box I noticed they included a small ketchup packet of Moly Brake Lube and in the instructions it says to apply the lube to all caliper and pad abutment contact points and to the face of the caliper pistons and that the warranty is void if I use any other lubricant besides the Moly Lube. Is this purpose of this Moly Lube the exact same as the Disk Brake Quiet or do they serve different purposes?

I haven't used Disk Brake Quiet, but from what I can tell, they're equivalent, and nobody will know the difference.

It's not the same stuff. Disc brake quiet is more like silicone as it dries out. Molly lube is more like grease. You'd be better off using the molly lube. If you've done brakes a lot you'll notice that you will 99% of the time never, ever see the OEM using something similar to disc brake quiet. Closest you'll ever come is some will use a sticky, tacky substance on the back of the shims on the pads to stick them in place. On another note you don't really see the glued on or riveted in place shims on the back of pads either. If you still have the OEM pads with shims and your new pads don't have shims your best option is to clean the old shims, apply a little molly lube to back of pad and reuse them. The shim is not because the pads are too thin, it's purpose is to absorb vibrations that create noise.
