BBC News Link - 'Iraqi Bio-Scientist Breaks Silence'

this is an extremely rare interview - indeed, according to the article, her first interview, and as far as i
know the only one - of dr. rihab taha conducted in mid-february, site unknown, although within iraq,
with her iraqi minders present during the interview ! ! ! !

this is also the first interview of its kind (that i've read at least) that allows us to peek into the atmosphere
of repression prominent iraqis had to survive under. her fear is palpable and her apologetics could not be
more scripted, yet her minders allow her to proceed according to script thinking her nervous compliance is
not in itself evidence against them.

excerpts:
I asked her if she was ashamed of her past work.
the facts are undeniable. Dr Taha's team grew 19,000 litres of botulinum toxin, a food poison that swells
the tongue and suffocates its victim

Two thousand litres of aflatoxin were produced, which causes liver cancer. And they also prepared gas
gangrene, which causes skin to melt away.
. . . the UN learned the truth about what was going on at al-Hakem [laboratory]. But they have been
unable to account for 8,500 litres of anthrax and large quantities of growth medium to culture germs.

and most importantly, the reporter witnessed the following during the course of their interview:

"Would you speak to the Inspectors privately?" I asked Dr Taha. "No I do not trust them. It is better to
have witnesses," she replied.
I watched the Iraqi officials present at the meeting writing down her words. It was impossible to tell from
her neutral tone what her true feelings were.

On the back page? They tried to hush it up so much that they devoted a whole TV programme on 9 February this year. This is old news - why wouldn't it be archived?
