I'm hearing of a lot of people my age (20-23) getting MCV contracted as an STD. I do not have it, but I am worried, because I've read online that it can easily transmit to other areas of the skin. Is it really that easy for an adult, such as myself, to contract it in other ways rather than sexually? Is it common for it to form on other areas of the body? I am being completely serious. I am concerned.

Abstract

Molluscum contagiosum is a disease caused by a poxvirus of the Molluscipox virus genus that produces a benign self-limited papular eruption of multiple umbilicated cutaneous tumors. This common viral disease is confined to the skin and mucous membranes. Transmission requires direct contact with infected hosts or contaminated fomites. It is generally thought to infect humans exclusively, but there are a few isolated reports of Molluscum contagiosum occurring in chickens, sparrows, pigeons, chimpanzees, kangaroos, a dog, and a horse. The infection is found worldwide and has a higher incidence in children, sexually active adults, and those who are immunodeficent.

Are you planning to touch everyone you see all day? if not, I wouldn't worry that much.

Well I kind of just thought of something. Oral sex is pretty common...and I've never seen an adult with it on their face...so i guess that's pretty rare then? I won't worry too much.

Any other thoughts?
