Molex connectors - any chance of a less vague name?

What exactly do people mean by a 'molex' connector? Molex make hundreds if not thousands of different types.

Do you mean one of the following:

Molex KK connector (used to connect fans to main boards)
Molex Mini-fit, Jr. (used to connect PSU to main board; 'ATX' and 'ATX 12V' connectors)
Molex Mini SPOX (used to connect floppy drives)
Molex Disk Drive Connector (used for hard disk drives)

Usally when someone says a molex connector they mean the plug that goes in to the Harddrives or CD/DVD ROMS.

Yeah that's what I think of when I hear Molex connector....quite a few cases of where a manufacturing company name has been used to describe something wider....a whole range of similar products.

Molex for my HD...asking for a Molex is like asking for a Battery (ie Car, Flashlight, Camera)...You want to identify it's purpose.

If taken in context it is not vague at all. If I say plug the molex connector into your CD Rom drive, do you grab the jumper cables and start pulling your car up?

C'mon guys show some sense. I can make xerox's of something even though I only have access to a non-xerox photocopier.

But if someone has a fan which has a 'molex connector' - what does that mean?

Similarly, some people have been very confused by my line of PC case lights which are fitted with a '3 pin molex connector' although I did state that this meant a 'fan' header.

I would assume you mean the small fan connectors unless you modify the context. If there's ambiguity then 12v Molex connector is more specific. I don't often hear of fan headers referred to as molex.
