Mold on carpet, how do I remove the nasty smell?

When gone for the day the new puppy seems to drool around her kennel. And there was a noticable smell. It was mold growth from the saliva, now in the carpet. The smell won't go away.

HOW can I effectively kill the mold, clean the carpet, and get the room smelling good again?

There's some stuff called Simple Solution that is made for this type of thing. You should be able to find it at a PetCo, Petsmart, etc, etc, etc.....

I would suggest using bleach and water to kill the mold, then baking soda or some other carpet deodorizer for the smell.

yup, hope your carpet is white, because that area will be afterwards

Rent a grocery story "steam" cleaner and us a disinfectant cleaner ( the Zep lemon stuff at HD or Microbran from a janitorial supply company . Try a test spot to make sure it doesn't suck the color out of your carpet . Do this in dry weather and use fans to dry out you carpets fast .

Hydrogen peroxide+Baking soda. Mix until you get a paste equivalent to cement, and rub in. This is effectively the same thing as Oxyclean. See if you can get 5%+ Hydrogen Peroxide, as anything less than that will not work teriibly welll. I do'nt think that bleach reacts with any of these, so you can probbably add some of that, too.
Once you have done this, dump in a huge amount of "Orange Cleaner". This will work wonders on everything, and works wonders on covering up smells.
If this does not work, you can try rubbing alcohol. Considering that you're likely to need a new carpet anyway, you can try lighting it, which will burn all the mould, hopefully without igniting anything else. However, far too many carpets are more flammable than they ought to be, so this is a "last ditch" sample.
