I have a 'popcorn' ceiling. In one of our bed rooms there are little spots growing (dark black) that are looking like mold to me. I climbed up there and looked - the 'mold' scrapes off with your fingernail (although there is way too much for me to do that way). There are no apparent leaks. The ceiling isn't moist in any way. There are no 'leak spots' or anything.

Is there something I can spray on this to get rid of it?

use something with Clorox in it to kill it, but you have to get rid of the source or it will come back.

Get rid of the moisture and properly ventilate the room.

OPEN YOUR WINDOWS AND GET SOME FRESH AIR!

We keep the windows open most of the time when it is cool enough. I guess it should be fair to say that the area I live in is 'very humid' and not to mention the town is basically in the middle of a rice field in the summer. . .

that looks like the beginnings of black mold, we had it in our attic, may want to check up there if you have it for moisture. it prolly got onto about 5 8x11 sheets of plywood in our attic and then we just had insurance pay for the removal a long time ago because im pretty sure that is covered under insurance.

then we saved the plywood and cloroxed it and i dunno what we are gunna use it for, but like 20 shets of plywood is nice (redid the whole roof).

and yes our attic was ventilated well, we had a large exhaust fan, and ridge vents so it wasnt like it was supe moist up their or something

Unfortuantly there is not attic - and this is a rental property.

The ceiling isn't moist in any way.

You are wrong about that. Check in the attic... or whatever is above that space.

call the rental company, have them look at it and replace, clean, detox, burn if necessary.

Ew. That's nasty.

You can get special paint that has crap in it to prevent mold from growing. $20 for a gallon at home depot. I had about 1/5 that much mold growing on my bathroom ceiling - I sprayed it with a bleach based cleaner and wiped most of it off, then painted.
