Bought a bottle of white and took of the top wrapper before uncorking it and there looks like mold on it. Does this mean that the wine is bad? Can I take it back to the store for a refund?

I don't know.....maybe you could get some french bread and some bleu cheese to go with it?

No way to tell. The cork could have only exterior surface mold and the wine would be fine. Or, it's a defective cork and the wine is trash. You have to open it to be sure. Call the liquor store where you bought it and see if they'll replace a bottle that's been "corked" after it's been opened. If they will, open it and see. If they won't, take it back before opening it.

There's no way to tell if the mold has gotten all the way down the cork. I would uncork it and see if the mold is all the way down the cork. If it is, return it. If the wine smells funny, is cloudy, or just doesn't look/smell right, take it back.

Thanks for the advice. I called them and they said that they would take it back opened. Started uncorking it and halfway through it was obvious that the cork was bad all the way down, it smells really bad. Damnit, I wanted that vouvray now :(
