Mohammad and Dogs

I had a strange encounter today where my dogs where running open lose at a park at the back of my apartment, and they approached this man, who looked Arabic. The guy started shooing away the dogs, and I told him they weren't dangerous. I felt bad for not having them on their leash, but they are small dogs, and not dangerous. Normally, the reaction I get is people petting the dogs, so this guy's reaction threw me for a loop.

At first I thought maybe he had been a victim of dog bite, or had autism, but then I relayed the story to my roommate who shared this insight on Islam with me. I did not know this, but apparently, Mohammad had a dislike for dogs, and this translated as a belief in Islam. I did some research on it to find out that Mohammad had some superstious beliefs regarding dogs. For example, if a dog crosses the path of a person praying, that prayer is null and void. And Muslims who owned dogs will not be admitted in heaven. :Q

For those that wanted to know where I got this from:

you are incorrect.

Muslims need to be clean when they pray. They wash before they pray and dogs are dirty according to the Quran. They cannot pray while touching a dog.

It does not say you cannot own a dog and if you do that you will go to hell. That is incorrect.

Iraq has plenty of stray dogs that GIs are taking care of. Iraq is a Muslim country.

I can believe the path crossing thing, but I imagine it'll be more than just dogs that invalidate prayers. The owning a dog == hell is complete shens.

I have met people from India who are very afraid of dogs, and the explanation I have heard is that in various cities there they run around loose and can be dangerous. So it's sort of ingrained into the culture a bit.
