Mogwai Fear Satan

I hate the tv
y'know that it's killing me
I hate the president
y'know that he's killing me
oh my love
do not fear
satan's army will never win
oh my love
do not despair
god is with us
living prayer
he's killing me

Try:

Yes! I am a Long Ways From Home
Tracy
Helicon 1
Superheroes of BMX
2 Rights Make 1 Wrong (here is the live version)
Take Me Somewhere Nice
Stanley Kubrick
Small Children in the Background
May Nothing But Happiness Come Through Your Door
Kids Will Be Skeletons
Tracy (Kid Loco remix)
Anything else by Mogwai

My favourite band ever by far. 🙂

For those interested Mogwai is an intrumental rock band (genre is called post rock) with badass melodies. Mogwai Fear Satan is a good one to start off on. And don't let the Fear Satan part run you off, this is not some crappy Metal band. Just good ol melodies.

Do you think post rock is actually an extension of shoegaze? I was listening to bailterspace the other day when this occurred to me.

I don't know a whole lot about shoegaze (recomendations? I have some Bailterspace on here but I never got around to listening to it. I'll give it a try) other than My Bloody Valentine (Kevin Sheilds from MBV did a cover of Mogwai Fear Satan also) and I can see some similarities.

There is a fair amount of second rate music out there that is called "shoegaze" that has poor production quality and is really just so much distortion. However, several bands "got it right" and have a heavy produced, lush, and hypnotic sound - even moreso than MBV. Bailterspace, Chapterhouse, and Slowdive would fit this category.

Edit: Bailterspace is still around after over decade and their newer stuff is less lush and more electronic, iirc. I was listening to Vortura (from '94) when I had this revelation, if it matters 😉
