Unfortunatly I bought the old version of golden orb recently, not that it destroyed my duron, though I think it would be better to replace it or just maybe to modify it somehow.
For now as I said I haven't had any problems with it but i'm considering using a pencil trick to unlock my Duron, so I'd have to remove the GORB and put it back to it's place again. I'm little woried the next time I do this I can say goodbye to my proc.
Now there's my question: has anyone figured any way to modify this damn thing so it wouldn't destroy the cpu?

First off, how did you get ANY orb on the Abit without knocking into the two large caps next to the socket?

Secondly, it is the FC0370-2 that "broke CPUs". The "early" version of the Socket 462 orb did not break or chip CPUs unless you were completely careless, so just because you don't have the DUO462 doesn't mean you don't have a proper cooler.

I don't understand you guys breaking chips with gorbs.

Its not that hard to flex the metal. I had to do it even with my celermine to get it to go on with ease..

You don't need 50 ft/lbs of pressure to get good heat transfer. With good grease, very little pressure is needed to conduct the heat. The whole point, like a tire, is to create a good contact patch to the other surface. With that and minimal pressure, the heat is gonna move.

I can't stand how every friggin heatsink comes out of the box ready to exert 50 ft/lbs of pressure or more against a chip. Either all of my CORE's sit high, or someone is just making these things wrong.

johnny: i've bent these two caps a little away from the socket. No prob with that, except they are really delicate which you won't say by just looking at them, will you?
Hope what you saing is right about this earlier version, couse I'd really mind seeing my proc messed up.
