An FYI for future searchers

I borrowed an operable thermaltake 750w modular PSU after having a system crash

After RMA ing everything, I couldnt get Windows to install. I had it pass through and install once...but it seemed to randomly crash during the installation. When it did install, Win 10 would freeze constantly.

I swapped out the PSU for another one and everything works perfectly. Im assuming either the PSU Thermaltake was messed up or my friend gave me the wrong modular cables. Seemed very odd that everything worked fine except the SATA power cables.

I do like modular psus but that was a very frustrating experience

But of course even the almighty EVGA G3 and Seasonic Primes even have a few duds.

Which Seasonic Prime models would you consider a dud? I've read four Prime reviews from Jonny Guru and have not found one dud yet.

I was just trying to say that even the "top shelf" models have defective units at times, just like any other component out there.

I wasn't trying to say the EVGA G3 or Seasonic Prime series are duds. They're both great product lines.

Well, yeah. Every model has DOAs and such. I'll agree on that.

The OP just stated it was a " operable thermaltake 750w modular PSU", so I had no idea if it was one of their lower-quality units, or one of their better units like some of the units in their Toughpower lineup. So since he wasn't sure if it was a PSU, cable, or other issue, I was just trying to point out it could simply be a flaky unit. I guess I didn't expand enough to clarify what I was trying to point out. I've been busy with other stuff, so it was a rushed answer. :)

I've been dying to get a Prime unit for my home server build, but, as you know, the cost is really up there.

Yeah, those units are a pretty penny. I saw a decent recent deal for the 650w and 750w units, but it is expired now:

I'm not sure if you have seen their new Focus Plus line, but Jonny has a review up for them now:

I think that series will be my next PSU purchase when the time comes. Not sure what size you need, but you can get a 850w unit for $95 after MIR and 750w for $99 at Newegg right now.

When I pull the trigger, it will be on a Prime 1000 Titanium. I hope to get a good deal on it. I've seen some sales, but they are still pricey.
