modular cables ... are they all the same?

I have a Antec TP550 & a Seasonic 750X in 2 different computers. Both of thses PSUs are modular & of course I did not need them all. I just noticed that the remaining cables with SATA or Molex connectors are wired identically at both ends.

I don't know who makes the Antec ... it could be Seasonic I guess, which would be one answer. But has anyone with differing brands of PSUs & excess cables noticed if they are the same?

Not sure what to do with this "knowledge" other than to keep the excess PCIe & CPU cables labeled as far what PSU they came with ... they do have different connectors at the PSU end.

Seasonic makes the TPN...but they are not necessarily the same.

It is not wise to use different modular cables with PSUs they are not intended for because they may not be the same...and if they are done by different manufacturers they usually aren't the same.

I get that they *may* not be the same ... just asking of those that *have* different brands of PSUs if they have compared or noticed if the cables are the same.

No!

WARNING WARNING WARNING!!!

NEVER mix cables from different mfrs - even differing models from the same mfr since the OEM can be different, etc.

Just because the connector fits does NOT mean the wiring is the same! If you want/must use them PLEASE verify with an ohmmeter. Otherwise you may be very sad.

o-o-oka--ay ... I have only checked out the wire color coding which has been identical.

So has anyone also noticed that the color coding is the same *AND* Ohm-ed the cables out?

Does anyone else have 2 different brands of modular PSUs with left over cables?

Perhaps the question should have been phrased, "have you noticed how different the modular cables are from different PSU brands?"

If your question is "are all modular cables the same from PSU to PSU?"

then the answer is unequivocally NO!!

Mom! Dad! Calm down, I think there is a pill for that.

I have already said that I know better for 2 particular PSUs.

From the OP, "... I just noticed that the remaining cables with SATA or Molex connectors are wired identically at both ends."

No. I did not qualify how *I* determined that they are wired identically. I am using English, but perhaps my English Lit prof would still hang her most attractive head.

From the OP, "... But has anyone with differing brands of PSUs & excess cables noticed if they are the same?"

Ergo I reiterate and embellish. If anyone has checked the wire color codes, noted pin positions, AND Ohm-ed each likely wire for possible similar appearing candidate modular cables, I would be interested to know your results. Perhaps you should do it via a PM tho.
