please lock this thread because it's nothing but personal attacks on my character, and for no reason at all.

I specifically said that I have very little experience with it but here are a few things *I* noticed. you think I made my experience up? I don't see how contributing my real experience to the global community warrants wild attacks like "he's obviously smoking crack", "your post is so full of BS", "you're high", "this post has to be a joke every single point is wrong". and then some moron asked the xm*FAN* site to explain XM to me rationally. "Nice plug we got there, too", "he must work for am/fm".

wtf is this a holy war? it's a radio! again, all I did was post my honest observations about a product, which is half of what these forums are about.

Sorry to say it, but those things suck. XM wasn't meant to sit in an office building, even though it's a great idea. If you want real experience with it, go down to your local GM dealer and take a test drive or something, but sit in the car (a GOOD car with a GOOD sound system) and listen to it. It's near CD quality.

why did the quality suck in the office though? they were good speaks. does it automatically downgrade if it can't get a high enough data rate?

Consider a small boombox (what you were listening to) to a home theater system (in things like the Escalade and other Caddy's, high-end Buicks). There's a big difference. The signal being broadcast is the same, no matter what you're listening on. The box that receives and interprets the signal is the key that defines what gets sent to the speakers.

go to xmfan.com and research before you post anything about XM. Your post had so much BS in it.

BTW - I have the Delphi SkyFi, the programming and quality is A LOT better than AM FM.

You're high. The owner of my company just got a new Chevy Crew Cab with XM in it. I took it on a trip for a couple hours and fell in love. XM owns me. Someday I'm not going to bring his truck back... Or I just might have to get it in my truck.

I don't know why everybody's flaming me, I just posted exactly MY experience. the concensus seems to be that XM isn't anything like what I described, so I don't know why my experience was so much different. no flames are needed though

lol - sorry guy. It seems to be the forum's favorite reaction. If you really want to experience XM, get a decent receiver (not that little interchangable plastic POS that are popular for home stereos and boomboxes), decent speaker setup, and make sure you're outside away from buildings with a clear view of either the east or the west sky. :)

Are you kidding? I have Sirrius, and its great. Quality is WAY WAY better than FM, near CD quality. Programming is MUCH more broad than FM, are you insane? How many stations in a particular genre do you get with FM? 1 or 2? 3 if you're lucky? And why would I want local color...I live in an area where we speak normal english. Also, only certain stations are censored.

re the receiver: I guess the delphi thingy must just really suck. I know everybody here is saying it's "near CD quality", but honestly on that delphi thing, the compression artifacts were soooo obvious. to give you an idea, it basically sounded like the audio on a very low bitrate Real video stream

XM quality is great, i have it in my car and it sounds just like a CD, XM and Sirrius are pretty much teh same quality, the music selection is great and its not limited and they really dont censor much at all,

you need to stop smoking crack

I just bought some stock in Sirius, I think satellite radio has a definate future. My wife says "who is going to pay for that when you can get it for free on AM/FM," my reply is people pay for cable and satellite for their TV, why not radio?

To the main poster: the small Delphi unit you are talking about is the SkyFi. I have one in my car and I love it. I don't know what channels you are listening to, but all the music channels have very, very good sound with much more definition than FM. I live in a major metropolitan area, Washington D.C (XM's Headquarters is here), so we probably have a lot of repeaters here to supplement the satellite signal. Maybe you have fewer repeaters in your area.

I also might suggest that, unless you have a south- or southeast facing window for your indoor antenna you may not have an ideal set up for it and that could be the cause of your apparent less-than-perfect signal.

Very limited programming? You obviously have not listened to XM.... Most music genres are on XM, from bluegrass to showtunes.

And how exactlly could music programming be censored? XM has a very wide playlist on all of its channels. (with exception of the top 40/hits channels). None of the talk programming XM carries is done in house, they are all national feeds from another source. (Sirius is the same way) So they couldn't possibly censor it. XM is mainly a music service, not a local news source. Its for people who want to get away from the so called FM music stations that have 30 minutes of commercials per hour and then another 15 minutes of endless and pointless DJ babble.

Of the few channels that do have DJs they only thing they really do is annouce future programs and requests thankfully. They don't babble on for hours about stupid stuff that happened to them last night/week/year/whatever. Unlike the DJs on many local FM stations.

Its a national service. How could it have any local color? That same can be said for satellite TV.

And if the signal in your office was cutting out so badly, they need to move the antenna. It should not be dropping out at all. Its fairly easy to get a XM signal, with a few exceptions... Metal, concrete, or UV coated/tinted windows will often block XM's signal.

User manual --> Read --> Learn how to aim the antena.

I'm sorry for saying this, but you don't deserve XM. While what (all) you say are true with broadcast contents, but not XM.

EDIT: Oh, does any one one to buy a full XM modulated system for your car? It came out of my car that I sold, it has a modulator (to connect to any stereo), antenna and receiver, all for 50 bucks. Interested PM me.
