Could one of the senior admins here at AT please confirm or deny that forum mods have access or no access to the content of private messages and whether they are being regularly read(or not) by the mods?
Thanks.
Will

Yes PM's (Private Messages) should remain private but why worry about it unless you have something to hide?

All my PM's are pretty boring discussing stuff like hot deals, web hosting, forum drama and of course olds basement schematics.

YGPM :p

A default feature of VBulletin is admin ability to view PMs. If you want a site that they can't do it easily, go find one using SMF.

???

We do NOT have the ability to read your pm's without first changing your password in the Admin module, which then AUTOMATICALLY alerts alerts you by e-mail that your password has been changed, not to mention that fact that you are alerted by the fact that you can't log in with your old p/w.

If (and that's a big "if" which I personally don't believe) the default feature of vB is the admin ability to view pm's, then it has been turned off by HQ and none of us have the ability to turn it back on.

As an admin of another vBulletin forum, I can confirm that neither versions 3 nor 4 have the ability to read PMs within the software. They could probably be read if you went digging through the massive MySQL database that holds the forum data, but that's pretty unlikely.

I agree. I run a VB 4 forum and there is no access out of the box.

Yeah, and they're dead wrong and full of it and you are eagerly eating their rank hysteria right of their hands. Shame on you for being so weak-minded as to attempt to spread their BS here without bothering to check the actual truth.

Please look at the posts right here in this thread by actual vB admins who know the software.
