Moding an Aiwa speaker system

I have an Aiwa system, 5 CD changer, with two speakers that arent half bad. Each has a 6in Sub in them, and then a 3in midrange...the systems way under powered though, the amplifier in it is smaller than the one in my Superscope system from 70s. But what Im wondering is if it would be possible to put in a new amp in the Aiwa system that puts out alot more power. I dont know how much the one in there now puts out, but I know it cant be much...because to get the speakers to play even loud enough to be heard outside my room I have to max the volume
