Modifying usbport.sys

First, I'm sorry if this has already been addresed before...

Are there any possible negative effects to the mouse and other USB devices? Can you damage the devices, or would they just work improperly and you can just switch back to the default usbport.sys file and everything would be back to normal. Are there any long term damages that could affect the mouse and other usb devices?

hey there a program that does eveything for you I just tried it I went from 125 Mhz to 250 Mhz going to try it out in CS:S right now going to play for about 30 minutes then switch it to 500 Mhz to see the differences, here the link.

I was using PS2, but as soon as I plugged the mouse into my USB it seemed better, is USB better the PS2 for your mouse if your gaming?

I just used it at 250 Mhz for abit, didn't notice much if any differnce and played CS S for abit I suck at it anyways, I just changed it to 500 Mhz and still don't feel the difference but I also just cleaned my pad and mouse. going to play CS S for abit brb to tell you how that goes.

I just used my mouse with 500 Mhz set and it didn't fell any different from 125, 250, or 500 Mhz, I still suck at CSS I'm switching it back to the default 125 Mhz before something bad happens.

I also have the Logitech 510 MX and have been running at 500 mhz for about 2 weeks now. I do feel a noticable difference going from 125 mhz to 500 mhz. Even going from 125 mhz to 250 mhz I do feel the mouse is a little bit smoother than at the normal rate. Aside from the mouse I also have a X10 remote connected to the USB port. So far my computer hasn't given me any problems and my computer is on 24/7. This patch has been out for a couple of years now and I haven't seen anyone reporting damages done to their computer as a result. I think it's pretty safe. Worst case scenario, it doesn't work for you then just restore it back to 125 mhz.

I wouldn't have thought it wouldn't play nicely with other USB hardware - reason being is that I'm fairly sure (I've forgotten, really) that mine's using the patch already, and it's on 125Hz.
Other USB devices include a card reader, digital camera (not always attached), MP3 player (infrequently attached), keyboard, iPAQ dock, and my MX700.

No problems so far.

125 Mhz is the default speed, ok I after using the mouse at 125 Mhz I think it's a bit different from the 250 Mhz and 500 Mhz rate, I might use the 250 Mhz rate some time will play CCS but I will ne unplugging all my other USB things.

Now running at 500Hz, still nothing wrong.

BTW, it's Hz (Hertz), not MHz (MegaHertz).

Phil, once you applied the patch, have you tried using your other usb devices, such as card readers?
