Modifying Laptop CD drives?

I have a IBM Thinkpad T23. A Combo Drive direct from IBM costs $560. Lord knows who would pay that much. Well I would if I had $560. However, I don't. I was wondering if I could source a Matsushita drive (Matsushita UJDA 710), I could maybe fit that into a Ultrabay 2000. All laptops most likely support a rear 50 port connection, no?

Can anyone help me with modification help, or tips?

Thanks,
Paul

Heres a litte secret. Almost all laptop cd, dvd cdrw drives are all the same formfactor. I have moded several cd dvds from IBM, Dell and compaq. As long as the front bezel gets swapped and the rear connector is fitted with the proper connector it will work. My compaq laptop has an 8x dvd drive from a thinkpad and my think pad has a 6x from a dell. 🙂. I had an extra cdrom drive from the thinkpad that I swapped bezels and rear connectors with a drive from compaq and just did the trickle down on all my systems. all works perfectly. BTW, I swapped out the processors also. 🙂 Newer laptops actually use a standard socket format.
