I have a nice P5W and e6600 system, but overclocking is hell on it. I remember once seeing a guide on another forum that showed readers how to modify it for maximum ocability, like removing the covers over the heatsinks, etc. Does anybody know where this guide is?

Removing the IHS from a Conroe will ruin it. It is definitely NOT recommended. I have read about two failed attempts. Could you be talking about lapping the CPU?

That is not what he was talking about.... Removing the IHS would be Truly Moronic....

He is talking about a thread at Extreme... they remove the Northbridge Copper Shroud, And Replace the Thermal Compound... and Same With the Southbridge..... you also need to put some small fans to help with the heat. It also has how to VMod the Northbridge......

be SURE to take off the plastic on the north/southbridges.

and turn off all related DH features that you dont need.
