I've seen a tutorial somewhere before that showed how to modify mice so that their scroll wheels spin freely like those found on Logitech's mice with "hyper-fast scrolling".

Anyone know what I'm talking about or even better, where this tutorial is?

Yes, I saw that article too somewhere. It had all kinds of nice disassemble photos & detailed instructions on how to mod the clicker for the scroll wheel to be less anoying. I may have the article somewhere, I'll look. My guess is that it is on one of the review sites (eg, THG or even Anand's).

They don't have a bluetooth model that has the hyper-scrolling AND back and forward buttons.

fwiw the logitech hyper scroll feels like it has a bearing, I'd be surprised if you could get the same feeling out of modifying the clicker style

Just remove the part that's spring loaded that presses against the detents inside the wheel. It will be smooth then. :)

the hyperscroll wheels are typically much heavier and made out of metal. as others have stated they likely have a precision bearing.

even if you remove the detents the wheel wont have any momentum to do the "spin freely till you stop it" effect of the logitechs.

i have a couple of MS mice with no detent type wheels, and they certainly dont behave like logitechs.

Ok the Logitechs were a bad example. The wheel doesn't have to scroll fast like the Logitechs. I just don't want the wheel to be "clicky". I just want it to scroll smoothly. The mouse is a Microsoft bluetooth notebook mouse 5000.
