Background: I have a MacBook and an iMac. Both of them came with Leopard. I scratched the iMac's discs, and I want to reinstall Leopard on the iMac.

I seem to remember reading that you can make an image of the OS X install disc and modify some files so that it will work on other Mac's. This would really help me to reinstall Leopard on my iMac. I have googled furiously, but I cannot find the page that has the instructions for this.

i'm sure you could do it, or you could call apple and ask them to send you some new restore disks.

While technically illegal, but not really since you own a Leopard license, you could download the Leopard installer from your favorite torrent site and burn it. Of course, you'll need a dual-layer burner and disc.

What happens if you change the original hardware on a Mac Mini?

(e.g. change out a combo drive for a super drive)

Does the original restore disc detect current hardware and install proper drives, or is it truly just an image of original configuration of Mac Mini?

I think it's driven off the firmware/motherboard. I've replaced both the DVD Drive and the Processor on mine and not had a problem.
