Modest CPU upgrade from 1900+?

I have an Athlon XP 1900+ (Palomino) on an EPoX 8K3A board and I am looking to upgrade it somewhat, for $100 or so. Obviously I am not expecting anything fantastic, but maybe there is a good overclockable chip that will work in this board? Thanks.

2500+ mobile; if ur board has good ocing options, you should get at least 3200+ OC from this i'd say

Will that work in my motherboard? I think the EPoX website said that they only supported desktop processors.

(On a related note, what's a decent/cheap quiet HSF I could use?)

wellll. no it should work - they are just the same as desktop counterparts except unlocked multiplier, lower voltage, and lower FSB

Without having reviewed the Epox writeup, the lack of a lock on the multiplier might confuse the BIOS, or there might be sufficient flexibility to accept an XP-M after all. That Epox web site SHOULD include a cpu chart. The Palominos were 266 MHz fsb, so you "probably" can't get into the higher levels of Thoroughbred B's, nor Bartons. Offhand, running a stock processor XP at stock speeds, there isn't a huge difference between a 1900 rating and a 2600 rating, but the Thoroughbreds reportedly do offer a great deal more OC capability over Palominos, especially T-bred B's.

I like Thermal Take's Silent Boost hsf's, and so does Frosty.

So does anyone know if the 8K3A supports mobile cpus? I don't really want to buy one and then have it not work.

sorry to put off your upgrade, i decide to do a little research, and read some threads of problems with mobile bartons... so i will say... hold off on the upgrade, until you can get a new mobo and cpu together. the performance increase is not worth the risk IMO.
