modern video cards and ITX cases

I'm thinking an ITX build might be in order in the future.

It's been years since I built a computer.

Video cards seem to have grown massively beasty, taking up two slots, sporting these monster fans. Some of them consume huge amounts of electricity too, like 200 watts or so.

I remember when common PSU's were 300 watts.

So I have my eye on this case + PSU

PSU is 250 watts. What's the ideal video card to use?

unless you're playing video games, you don't need a video card any more.

You can probably use any video card that is single slot and doesn't need a 6-pin power plug.

For using higher end video cards, a much better case would be this one:

Silverstone SG05-450 (same price as Newegg, but save $20 on shipping)

It is a bit taller and requires a notebook optical drive, but in all other ways it is better than that Rosewill case (made by Apex). The 250W PSU in the Rosewill case is fairly mediocre in quality, doesn't actually put out 250W and is inefficient. The shortness of the case also makes cooling difficult, compounded by the fact that the case has no cooling fans.

The Silverstone case can hold better CPU coolers, or more efficient with stock cooler due to a bit of breathing room, plus has a 120mm case fan. It can also take big gaming video cards (though not the biggest).

Perhaps now would be the time for you to tell us what you will be using the system for? If you are not gaming (or using anything that needs CUDA or OpenCL or OpenGL acceleration) then you should be using integrated graphics.

huh? So if you broke laptop you are willing to spend as much as one hardware on a desktop for a whole new computer... right.
