Hullo lads.
Was browsing the ol' Kikatek site, and happened upon an Asus Xonar going for £80, which piqued me curiosity: is there a ~£80 soundcard that is, at the least, equal in features and quality to my X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro?
Reason for asking, is that for the past wee while, I've been getting this horrid interference from my sound card. I think it's either because something fell out when I removed the shroud to clean out the dust, or when it feel out of my pci-e x1 slot due to the case-screw being too loose.
Figured I'd get the low-down on what the current price
erformance:features king is.
In particular, the necessary features that I'd need from a soundcard are:
OpenAL support, preferably coupled with an ALChemy (DSound -> OpenAL wrapper) equivalent.
L/R output from both analog & optical out ports. I'm using my two Edirol MA-15D speakers as a dual-subwoofer of sorts, one for each of my SN10 speakers. The Edirols take the output directly from my optical out, which saves me from having to buy splitters and adapters; the cable nightmare is already too real.
Dedicated SPU. I'd rather not burden my CPU with handling audio shizzle when I'm paying 80 bob for piece of kit to do that for me.
X-Fi Crystalizer equivalent. This lil' feature is amazing. Somehow, it makes audio sound much clearer. Don't know how it works, but I can't live with it turned off. I've found the sweetspot for the setting to be @ 75%, fer those curious.
And, naturally, an equalizer. All of 'em sound cards should have this, nay?
So, err, aye. Any decently priced, and decently featured, sound cards floating about these days?
