Expecting our first baby in 2 months and would like to pick up a camcorder. My last camcorder was the hv20 and I'd like something as good or better (but using SD instead of tape), any suggestions?

There's a pretty wide range. It all depends on what you're looking to spend. From the standard def FS40 @ $300 to the top consumer HF G10 @ $1500.

Thanks for the reply! What would give similar video quality? Features aren't all that necessary. Thanks!

Define a budget first. That's usually the easiest place to start culling the selection.

I'd like to stick to as sub-$1,000 as possible, especially since I still have my HV20 and just need to clean it up. I'd like the convenience of flash memory so it's worth it for me, but only if IQ is similar.

Well, ~$1000 should certainly get you something nice, I'd expect.

Here's a comparison of Canon's price-similar models (~$1000) to the HV40, which I assume is a logical successor to the camera you already have.

Beyond that, I unfortunately don't know jack about camcorders. :(
