Moderate over clocking goal

I have read the "AMD64 overclocking how to," very informative and I thank the author. However I don't really want to find my max, or run at 95% of max right now. I would like a nice performance boost. If there is anyone who knows my motherboard and would care to tell me the setting to get my speed up to 2.5 GHz, if that is low enough and a little extra kick out of the ram I paid extra for, I would be very grateful.

2.2 GHz san core
Dfi lanparty ultra 4-d mainboard
Ocz ddr 533 plat ram-1 gig dual channel
water cooled rbx dangerden water block and 145 gph pump.

Im a total over clocking newbie.

You should be able to run you ram at it's rated speed by using the following settings.

FSB/HTT 266mhz
CPU multi 10x
HTT multi 3x
vcore 1.55 or less (some will do it on stock vcore) test for stability
Memory 1:1 or 200 or DDR400 or whatever the divider settings on the DFI are. This will give you a ramspeed of DDR532

You may need to bump the chipset volts, My board doesn't have chipset voltage adjustments, some of the DFI owners around here should be able to tell you what to set the chipset volts at.
ddrvolts ---- default for your sticks (check the OCZ website if you don't know what this is)
mem timings ---- default(SPD)

This will give you 2.66ghz, and will pose no risk to your hardware. I have the same 3700+ cpu and its a monster, I run mine at 2.8ghz on 1.55vcore.

No luck.
I used the setting you suggested and up the voltage to 1.5. The computer hangs for a second right before the "Verifying Pool DMI Data" message would appear, then the computer restarts. Any idea what i did wrong? Opps found my mistake, I have ocz ddr 500 gold ram.
Could this be my problem, if so how should i adjust the settings? Here is the info on the ram, every overclocking attempt has ended is a restart or a memory error

The info part says the ram is 3.3v but my mainboard shows it running at 2.6v

Yeah that makes a big difference. Up the DDRvolt to 3.0-3.1 and try again.

you picked a tough rig to start out new on...i would advise a little trip to DFI-Street.com for some specific help on bios versions and mem settings....

250Htt caused it to reboot as soon as windows started loading. Here is what i ended up with
FSB/HTT 230
HTT/4x
CPU/11x
stock cpu voltage and i upped the dram voltage to 2.9, which the mainboard is showing 2.97v. Unless something seems wrong i think i will stick with this for a while. Im not looking to set a records, just a performance boost without any worries of breaking anything. I ran memtest and cpu burn all night, it passed. Temp for cpu stayed around 34c, chipset was 40c. Thanks for your help, i think i understand overclocking now.
230fsb x 11cpu = 2530 mhz cpu
230fsb x 2 = ddr460
230fsb x 4 = 920htt

The questions that remain are, does having a fsb lower then 1000 lose any performance, and what is the normal ddr voltage for my ram. Is it what newegg claimed or with the mainboard did auto?

You really should go through the overclocking AMD guide so you'll know exactly which component is holding you back. You won't be running your system at 95%, but typically only one component at 95% - for instance on my current setup, my ram is holding me back at a 280mhz fsb, and everything else is running well below a 100% stable overclock.

Anyhow, as far as I've tested, there are no differences between 800 and 1000 ht, so I wouldn't worry about performance if you're in that range.

Your ram most likely should run at 2.6v at ddr400 speeds, and 2.8v at ddr500 speeds. You can't ever believe what the motherboard auto-detects for you when you have high-performance ram. You may want to lower the voltage to 2.8 and see if your system still works. Also be sure to check the memory timings. This ram is rated at cas2.5-3-3-8 at 250mhz/htt. If the cas is set to 2.0, it would definetly be holding you back and cause random errors when booting if the ram can't handle it.
