Westell ADSL modem,

Efficient Networks Speedstream 3060 internal ADSL
modem,

or Efficient Networks Speedstream 4060 USB ADSL modem

I copied this off of www.verizon.com's products section, they sell a sort of quickstart picture card that supposedly shows how to install ea. of those products should you order the self install DSL package. Anyway, does anybody know how Verizon figures out which customer gets what modem?

More significantly, what modem is the best one to have?

Copied this too:
Verizon Online DSL currently supports these modems:

Efficient Networks SpeedStream 3060 Internal DSL Modem
Efficient Networks SpeedStream 4060 USB Modem
Westell DMT ADSL External Modem
3COM HomeConnect ADSL Modem PCI

Well i suppose the best one, as in the more advantageous one would be the Westell, the only external of the group... and external is the way to go I'd think?

Hey man,

Just 2 cent suggestion from the guy who has gone through the trouble. Verizon sucks really bad, that's what I have now. It took them 2 weeks just to setup my simple profile in their database. In the mean time I had to call them left and right asking me about the status. But no one would give me the right response. Someone would say that they have opened the ticket and give me the ticket number. The next day I call, the guy says they do not even open a ticket with numbers that they give me. They say, they always open with number 1 but they gave me a ticket number starting with 2000. They would simply say that engineers are working on it and guess what, you can't talk to those engineers and they only work 9a.m. to 4 p.m. monday thru friday.

Tech support people do not have any idea on how to contact those engineers as well. They say their numbers are not accessible to them and the only way they communicate is via status on the ticket.

I finally got so mad after 13th day, and said I wanted to talk to manager/suervisor. And after talking to them, I find out that my ticket had been opened some about 3 months ago, when I did not even had subscribed. So, they thought it was the ticket when verizon people went on strike and closed my ticket.

I cussed about it for a while and the guy was getting even more rude to me and I finally said, I want to talk to his manager so that I can explain what was going on and that I wanted to cancel my service.

Trust me man, all they ask is that if link lights are on or not and that if any of the lights are blinking. I have been doing networking for sometime and I know these things. But instead they would say that I have installed my modem incorrectly and all the crap that is not true.

Think twice before you get service from Verizon. I suggest you read DSL reports and find it out for yourself.

Check it out yourself at DSL reportsDSL REPORTS

Hope this helps. But anyway, I have modem from Westell and seems fine with web browsers but I cannot play any games online as of now. I do not know about the others.

hehe. I have USWEST and currently going through the same trouble you went through Grasshopper. Usually when it came to DSL if everything went well then you won't have problems, but once you need help then most techsupport is a moron. I have seen alot of techsupport where all they tell you to do power down, power up and wait for for like 1/2 hour while they think what they should do next. I usually know more than most techsupport that I've talked to. Where the hell do they get these people.

Get the westell external dsl modem.
I have it and i don`t have to worry about drivers and it looks nice too. There's a $99 firmware upgrade for this modem that turns it into a router.

I have verizon as well and all i can say is it sucks a$$.

Save yourself and find another dsl isp.

hi guys yeah i know lots of bad stuff about verizon... right now my coworker ordered verizon and was expecting to receive the self install kit in 3 wks. 4wks and still did not come. also that 4th week was when she was supposed to be online. they pushed her back 3 more weeks on top of week4.

But for me, if I get Mindspring, it's Verizon provisioning. If I order Telocity, it's Verizon provisioning. Everything points to Verizon for me it seems.
