Modems keep disconnecting

For a friend so it's a bit hard to get all the info.

Suggested solutions needed to the modem disconnecting after logging in..
The most I get ranges from 30secs to 1 min..

I've given up for the moment.. NEED IDEAS!!!

I have this SAME crap problem with a USB modem too.

The 1 I REALLY want to get working is on the notebook I have.. its a lucent technologies soft modem amr.

Any ideas?

OK, she has 3 modems. The internal notebook one that doesn't want to work. A USB modem that doesn't work. It has been tried on numerous comps to no avail, and the place where she bought it (a place called Hardly Normal would you believe ) said it was working. But her desktop internal modem is the only one working.

are they all being plugged into the same line? maybe there is static on the line? have you talked to your ISP about the problem? sometimes this type of thing can be on their end.
