why the fvck is it every time i try to install a modem it doesnt work. It wants to be on com3, when windows only shows com 1 and 2. Why the hell doesnt windows have a com3?????????
Most motherboards already come with com1 and com2. So those are already
being used by the system. I've found the best way to install an internal
modem is to go into the BIOS and disable com2.
Then it'll be available for the modem...........Greg
What do motherboard slots have to do with com1 and com 2????
The external com ports are usually located by the external mouse and
keyboard ports. If you're not using them, disable them in the BIOS.
Then you can install your internal modem in any of the available PCI slots.
(but don't use the PCI slot right next to the AGP slot).
The windows system will then pick a com port to use for the modem, usually
com1 or com 2 as they'll now be available.......
