Modem woe's

Ok, so i was talking to tech, and my modem is installed on Com3, she was telling me to go to device manger and select ports (com and lpt) so i did that, and it only has listed: communications port COM1 and ECP Printer port (LPT1). She was telling me how i needed to set my com to the same settings as my modem. like the speed and everything, so since my modem is on com3 how do i do this?

I am running:
Amd 1ghz
384mb ram
Geforce 3 ti200
Windows ME
Zoom internal 56k pci modem with newest drivers.

I don't have the original modem cd, how do i add com3 to my port settings?

go into the bios and under intergrated perif, and set comm 2 or on board uart 2 to disable, this helps alot with modem probs

I don't have that in my bios, i'm running a compaq computer and it doesn't have taht in the bios, what can i do?

Compaq is a strange animal. Did the tech support person walk you through the process?
If not you should ask them to. Sorry that's not much help.

What's a modem? Heh, seriously though, I've had my share of problems with modems. If you can't get it to detect or run, try switching the PCI slot it's in, sometimes it won't get the right COM port unless it's in a specific pci slot. Hope this helps!
