Ok, I was bored today and decided to try and idea I had been playing with for the last few days. That idea was to run a dual internet input scenerio. I got this to work fine for the most part but my computer only wants to utilize one of the modems at once, and just leaves the other one in an idle state. My question is can I some how force my computer to use them both equaly so that my internet speeds are roughly twice as fast as they are now? Since I do have two lines connected to two modems connected to two network cards connected to my one computer. I am using Windows XP Pro w/ SP1. Any help or idea suggested would be greatly appreciated.
 
You need additional hardware for that which costs a few hundred and a yearly amount because part of it is always using their servers I believe, not sure though. I don't even remember the company, but it costs a lot and in that much you can just get cable internet.

what additional hardware is needed? and i do have cable internet and am paying for 2 lines, so i figure i may as well use what im paying for...

Well... try this, connect a modem to one computer, and another modem to another computer. Try download a large file like the game Planetside @ 1.5GB from fileplanet.com or anything large on both computers and report back the speeds. Then download the file again on one computer this time and report its speed.

I want to see if the bandwidth limit is per each cable modem or per the house. Because if it is a limit per house, you won't get any increase in speed by using two modems at the same time.

Its per line/modem. Im on 256k cable which is the reason im desperate enough to try something like this. But im only paying $15 a month for it...
 
Well, I really don't know what to say. I'd link you to the site which made the hardware for connecting two modems to use together but I don't remember nor did I ever bookmark it since it wasn't of use to me. The only thing I can reccomend would be to use one line for downloading and the other for surfing. Even a 256k connection is good. I was on a connection twice as fast as a 56k, and that seemed really fast too. I think most pages load much faster when you double 56k since lots of sites load uner a second or two then.

how would i assign specific tasks to specific modems like you said?
