bleh, i hate modems :-\...heres what happend i went and did my yearly (or so) reforrmat everything went smooth no problems at all till i tried to connect the the internet...it connected at 31.2k and 26.4k! down from 45.5k about 2hours before, the drivers are all updated everything is fine accept the connection. i tried putting the card in a different system and it connected at 45.5k (both running win98)...so it can't be the isp or modem. this is kinda weird to me cause its never happend to me, the modem is a ISA AOpen FM56-ITU/2

Put it back in the first system and you'll probably get something different. It is entirely possible to get 24.6 now and 5 minutes later, get 45. Same modem - same slot - same ISP . . . just different conditions and volume of folks sharing the bandwidth available.

If it ain't broke - don't fix it! (That applies to compulsive reformatting, etc. as well.) :)
