Modem setup question

Senior member
I am building a basic system for my friend from my old socket A motherboard. He needs dialup connection. Does the network port on the mobo also serve as dialup port? Thanks.

Sorry but if your asking this question, you really shouldn't be building a PC for anybody. This should be common knowledge. But in answer to that, no, the network port is completely different than a dialup modem. Look on amazon.com for a US Robotics USB modem.

I apologize if my request was offensive. Since we switched over to cable years ago, I haven't dealt with dialup. I don't remember any. He is using his neighbor's computer once a week to check his e-mails, and doesn't seem to have sufficient fund to buy a new computer. I am his best lead for I am not charging him a dime.

My friend got his computer fried. Since he has been using dialup, should his fried computer have a dialup modem card? Thanks.

If his fried computer could dial-up, then, yes, he may have a PCI modem. Look for an RJ-11 socket (the phone cord will click in and fit snugly).
