As long as you go with a cable modem that has a ethernet instead of USB, you'll be fine. USB has way too many problems when it comes to cable modems. When (note: not if) you have a problem with USB, the fixes are either real quick, or very very lengthy and can include going into the system registry if need be.

Ethernet is 1) more stable and 2) has potential for faster connection :)

I'll second that suggestion to stay the hell away from USB modems....a friend of mine got one that was USB only when he signed up for his cable Internet and had nothing but problems with it. Finally the cable company came out and gave him a Toshiba PCX1100U that has both USB & ethernet and since he swithced his connection to ethernet he hasn't had a simgle problem.

I use a Surfboard 4100 w/ USB connection, works flawlessly. Couldn't hold a connection more than a few minutes using the ethernet connection, and this after changing modems and NIC's...........lol

Go into your registry, find and remove the MS/TCP keys and reboot.
rip/reinstall your network stack
reboot

You're in business. :D
