Ok, I work at this place installing components for machines, and today I got an old pentium compaq box, with these kind of slots:

"[======] [============================]"

And the PCI modem he wants installed looks like this:

"[======] [=====================] [======]"

If that makes sense.

It fits in, and I havent tested it yet, but I was wondering if it would work or not.
The mobo has a PCI slot with 2 seperations, and the PCI modem has 3 seperations, but it fits ....

Any words of wisdom?

If the PCI modem fits and the pins line up... why not. The notches on some cards are
purely for speed reasons.

The one on top is an ISA slot. I don't think your PCI modem will work in an ISA slot because while PCI cards are 32-bit, ISA slots are 16-bit. I think I tried to do it in the past when I was less computer literate, and couldn't get anything to work. Hope this helps.

ISA slots are longer than PCI slots. I don't even think a pci card will fit in an isa slot and vice versa (I've been known to be wrong though!)

CorporateRecreation,

IF the PCI modem fits into the slot then it should work. Sometimes companies design cards with the cutouts on the bottom edge because those pins are not needed for proper operation. What color is the slot? White is typically PCI and black is typically an ISA slot.

Thanks all, especially bigg..

The slot is white, and I am almost positive it is PCI. ISA is much longer.
Thanks again, I will give it a whirl ;)
