Modem question.....

Hi guys, I am not sure if this is in the right place or not. If it isnt I am sorry.

I have been a long time DSL user and they finally put cable in where I live. So today I went and got it 5meg connection and with the install pack it says you can either hook the modem up to the pc with the ethernet cable or USB cable. it provides both.

Was wandering what one is better to use or are they both pretty much the same?

Thanks,
Tommy

For many reasons you are better off with the ethernet connection.

1) Faster then USB 1.1
2) Frees up a USB port
3) Ethernet is made for this!
4) Ethernet will allow you to run a firewall
5) You were going to run your own firewall, right?
6) Right?

Seriouly - A firewall is not optional in this day and age. They cost as little as $20. Check out the offering from NetGear.

By Firewall p1800volvo means Cable/DSL Router, and he advise is sound.

Stay away from the USB.
